Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to expect during the appointment?

The Clinic is held within Bradley Physio at either their Rochdale or Tottington Branch. Appointments last around twenty minutes. Please inform Reception when you have arrived and you will be seated in the reception area before being taken into a comfortable treatment room. If you have difficulty with mobility, please mention this when you book your appointment and we can ensure you are seen in a ground floor room.
Due to the COVID Pandemic appointments are only available at the Rochdale Branch of Bradley Physio.

The appointment will last for approximately 30 minutes. Katherine will first explain the procedure and answer any queries you may have. You will then be asked to lie down on your back on an examination couch. You do not have to lie flat.

Katherine will examine your ears using microscopic vision before commencing treatment. A gentle suction device is used to remove any wax or debris from the canal. The tip of the device is always visible to Katherine which is one of the reasons it is such a safe procedure. Treatment can last just a few minute or up to twenty minutes. Following your appointment Katherine will explain her findings and offer any advice.

Do I need to use a softening agent prior to the appointment?

No, this is not necessary. If you have had syringing in the past you may have had to use olive oil for several weeks prior to your appointment. This is not required before undergoing microsuction. However, a drop of oil the night before your appointment can ease the extraction of the wax. Don’t worry if you forget or simply do not wish to do this, it should not be a problem.

Do you use any other methods apart from microsuction to remove wax?

Occasionally certain ENT instruments may be used, usually a very slim forcep known as a crocodile. This is dependent on the type of wax present and is not always appropriate.

What is the cost of an appointment?

Appointments cost £55.00. This includes examination and assessment of both ears, any necessary treatment and advice regarding future management.
