ROCHDALE EAR CARE CLINIC

Providing microsuction for safe removal of wax/ debris from the ear canal.

What do I need to expect during the appointment?

Rochdale Ear Care Clinic is now based within Face Medical Clinic, Heywood.

Appointments last approximately 30 minutes.

Please inform Reception that you are attending the Ear Clinic and you will be seated in the comfortable waiting area.

When Katherine is ready you will be shown into a ground floor treatment room.
The procedure will be explained to you and any queries you have will be answered.
You will then be seated on an examination chair. You will be positioned with your back at an approximate 45-degree angle. You do not need to lie flat.

Katherine will examine your ears under microscopic vision. A gentle suction device is then used to remove any wax from the ear canal. The tip of the suction is always visible to Katherine which is one of the reasons it is such a safe procedure. Treatment can be completed in just a few minutes although it can take up to 20 minutes.”

The appointment will last for approximately 30 minutes. Katherine will first explain the procedure and answer any queries you may have. You will then be asked to lie down on your back on an examination couch. You do not have to lie flat.

Do I need to use a softening agent prior to the appointment?

No, this is not necessary. If you have had syringing in the past you may have had to use olive oil for several weeks prior to your appointment. This is not required before undergoing microsuction. However, a drop of oil the night before your appointment can ease the extraction of the wax. Don’t worry if you forget or simply do not wish to do this, it should not be a problem.

Do you use any other methods apart from microsuction to remove wax?

Occasionally certain ENT instruments may be used, usually a very slim forcep known as a crocodile. This is dependent on the type of wax present and is not always appropriate.

What is the cost of an appointment?

Appointments cost £60.00. This includes examination and assessment of both ears, any necessary treatment and advice regarding future management.
